• When are the Camps :
• #1 June 21- 25 9:00–12:00 (for grades 4 - 8)
• #2 July 5-9 9:00–12:00 (for grades 4 - 8)
• #3B July 19-23 1:30–4:30pm (entering grade 9 - this is in place of camp #3A)
• #4 July 19-23 9:00–12:00 (for grades 4 - 8)
• #5 July 26-30 9:00–12:00 (for grades 4 - 8)
• Where: Camps are held at 17219 Modbury, Spring 77379
• What: A math camp designed to show students that math can be fun.
Math enrichment activities train students for competitive math clubs
and/or classroom success.
• Sponsored by: Paul Thornton*, a math teacher for 30 years and successful
math coach of numerous Mathcounts and TMSCA teams
• Grades: • The camps are designed for students entering grades 4-8, except #3B.
• The camps focus on Mathcounts, number sense, calculator skills
and general math.
• Each week is a different camp using different material.
• Camp #3B* is only open to students entering grade 9. This is
a new camp to help entering freshman with their transition to
high school math club topics.

* The Math Challenge Camps are sponsored by Paul Thornton, a math teacher for 30 years, who specialized in developing the skills that help students succeed in math club competitions.
During his tenure as a coach of math clubs, his students and teams achieved the following honors:
• 13 consecutive finishes in the top ten of the Texas State Mathcounts competition.
• 2 trips to the National Mathcounts competition.
• 9 trips to the TMSCA State meet which included highest scoring 5A team in 2001, 2002
and 2003.
• Texas Math League state 8th grade champion for 6 years and regional champion for 16 years.
• Winner of 74 Saturday math competition sweepstakes over his span of 23 years at
Doerre Intermediate.
Coach Paul Thornton is now retired and wants to continue to train children to excel in mathematics.
